Commuter Love
‘Commuter Love’, the new single from UK electronica duo I Am A Camera, sees its mainstream release on December 4th.
Accompanied by a kooky and confusing video, shot and created by the pair themselves on their iPads and iPhones, the single seeks to evoke imagery of ‘70s sci-fi and horror’. Sadly, it’s a horror story for all the wrong reasons.
The track is clunky and unsatisfying, and offers little in the way of innovation, or of any real lyrical or musical invention. With a vocal style that harks back to the early 00’s likes of Kosheen and Morcheeba, ‘Commuter Love’ is a tepid electronica-pop fusion whose simplicity may impress some, but will leave most critics cold.
The duo are currently working on a raft of new material in the studio with UK producer Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, Sugababes, Portishead), to be released in 2012 and accompanied by a nationwide tour in the New Year. Hopefully, McVey’s experience with these great acts will lend some credibility and some innovation to the rest of I Am A Camera’s work.
